How I went from being an employed physician to opening my own practice
After my anesthesia residency and pain management fellowship at UCSF, I stayed on faculty for 5 years. But between the pay cuts and the high cost of living, it became apparent that something needed to change.
We moved to Louisiana and I joined an anesthesia group that said they needed a pain management specialist. It didn't take me long to figure out that our objectives were not aligned. So I decided to take the leap and start my own practice.
Leveraging my practice into multiple revenue streams
As my practice grew, I realized that there were only so many hours in the day and so many I could see. I recognized that I was referring my patients to other services that I didn't control. My epiphany? By vertically and horizontally integrating services, I could improve the quality of care my patients received and maximize my revenue at the same time.
My practice grew to 11 providers. I built a 25,000 sq ft medical office building. And then added multiple services and businesses including a multispecialty ambulatory surgery center, anesthesia company, PT, Imaging Center, psychological services, lab services and more.
Why I teach other physicians
There are so many physicians who are frustrated by how hard they work and how little they make. They are looking for alternate ways to make money--often outside of medicine. Maybe you are one of them?
But there is truly so much opportunity within medicine-right under your nose. Physicians spend so much time, money and effort to become doctors. Why not capitalize on that expertise?
I discovered how to optimize my efforts to deliver the best patient care and make the most money without working harder. And now, using an action-by-action plan, I teach physicians what I’ve personally done to build a time-leveraged, multiple 7-figure businesses.
I understand that we were not taught the business of medicine in medical school or residency. And that starting a business can be scary. But I know, from my own experience, how a data driven plan transforms an idea to a reality.
